Latest Updates from Our Project:

Some Final Prototypes!
14 days ago – Fri, Feb 07, 2025 at 11:00:26 AM

Hey all! Just a brief update to cover a couple things. Mainly, I got photos of the final Zebra Haunch and Zebra 2-Bone bags! They are on the way to me now, though I highly doubt I'll have them in time to do photos before the campaign ends. A bit of a shame since I didn't get any clear photos of them being held up this time, and these bags look a lot better in use than they do laid flat and empty on a table.

Speaking of Zebra Haunch, we hit 11k and are on our way to 12k!

That means the zebra haunch is unlocked in a "no out of pocket gap bridging" kind of way! Which is amazing news. We're currently $3.2K away from unlocking the first Premium Cut, and I'm not gonna jinx us by saying we'll definitely make it or something, but I'll at least say I am super excited to see where we land at the end of the campaign! Mako Chow is my favorite of the Premium Cut designs. If we unlock it I gotta do something to celebrate! I dunno what yet though.

Anyway, I just wanted to share those with you! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

1 week left! Let's unlock that Premium Cut Bag!
15 days ago – Thu, Feb 06, 2025 at 12:39:28 PM

Time has flown by! We are entering the final week of the campaign! If you missed the last update, the Zebra Haunch has gotten an early unlock, the pool of sticker designs was expanded, and new add-ons are available: buckle lanyards and meat label decals. We're working toward unlocking the first Premium Cut bag!

The current bag order according to the poll:
  • Bear Chow
  • Alley Chow
  • Mako Chow
  • Royal Chow

The last stretch is where a campaign goes from idling to revving back up again. It is still possible that we could unlock multiple more stretch goals. But I know a lot of folks are still waiting in the eaves to see if one of the Premium Cuts will become funded without backing in the meantime. This has actually become a pretty significant hurdle that has nipped at our heels the whole campaign! I hate the idea of disappointing folks who are super excited for these designs, so I'm trying a solution:

You can now reserve a Premium Cut bag as an Add On!

Folks who want a Premium Cut bag can now get that bag put on their pledges right away! People going from saying they want to pledge to genuinely pledging could be a huge boon, and we could use the boost.

HOWEVER!!!
  • If a Premium Cut bag is not unlocked, any charges for this add-on will be refunded come survey time.
  • The Premium Cut bag will not be added as an individual pledge level until a bag is actually unlocked.
  •  If at least one Premium Cut bag unlocks, charged add-ons will fall under our cancellation policy.

Please consider sharing the project with anyone who might be interested, especially if they were waiting on a Premium Cut unlock! I'll see you all later this week. Fingers crossed this helps us combat our problem some!

Zebra Haunch UNLOCKED! +New Add-Ons! Bear Chow up next??
17 days ago – Tue, Feb 04, 2025 at 02:26:07 PM

I really wanted my next announcement to be that the zebra haunch got unlocked, so after 8 days of silently waiting I am manifesting my own wants and doing it now anyway. I know folks want them and that they will be worthwhile to have! I don't mind bridging gaps out of pocket if it gives us some momentum. Especially since we were less than $200 away earlier, only for some cancellations to drop us back down. That's fine, cancellations are normal! I just know it stings to see and if anyone else was also excitedly watching the number creep up for the last week I don't want you to be disappointed. You know what that means as well:

The climb to the first premium cut bag begins!!!

That will most likely be Bear Chow since it has stayed in the lead since the poll launched, though it is only ahead by 9 votes right now! As soon as the goal is hit I plan to consider the current leader LOCKED IN so people will know what they're pledging for. We have 9 days left, think we can do it?

I also have some new Add-Ons for your consideration!
I am getting some of the toon art as textured glitter stickers, the meat labels are now available as window clings if you want to tell everyone your car is packing meat, and there are now lanyards in a few colors that have a buckle! This buckle will make them especially easy to use for mini bags. If you plan to use yours with a lanyard at conventions I really recommend having one with some form of buckle other than breakaway with you, even if you tend to get lanyards at the con, even if it isn't these ones.

Also, our partner project A Colorful Horde has posted possible dragon plush designs! If you haven't been over there to take a peek at what grind3h is doing you should, there's SO MUCH cute dragon stuff! Imagine feedin' the lil dragons the plush meat keychains...

T-Bone Steak Mini Bag now available!
25 days ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2025 at 04:59:24 PM

I spent the day chewing on the information from this morning's update. After talking things over with some folks, and then unexpectedly getting in to a convention I'd been waitlisted for initially, I'm going to be taking a hybrid approach! I will be covering the most popular mini bag, the T-Bone Steak, out of pocket. The salmon slice and egg are now a single stretch goal. Thank you all for your feedback and the kind words earlier, it has been a stressful day but hearing from others helped ease at least one thing on the list of worries and it does make me smile to see people excited about something.

The Raw T-Bone Mini Bags are available at $10 less than they will cost once released!

It is available as both a pledge level and an add-on, so you have your pick of how to nab 'em!

Also, our partner project A Colorful Horde has officially funded their plushies!! The next plush stretch goal has been revealed. There is also a COCKATRICE PIN NOW AAA!! Remember if you back both of our campaigns for physical rewards there's 2 free enamel pins in it for you, so consider looking at their newly unlocked lil dudes!

Hopefully the next time I post an update it will be to let you all know the zebra haunch has unlocked. See you soon!

Crazy update on mini bags!
25 days ago – Mon, Jan 27, 2025 at 08:34:29 AM

So I finally heard back from my chosen manu on the mini bags! They've been preparing for their big break for the Lunar New Year and the request for pricing and prototypes got lost in the hustle and bustle. That's totally fine and I half expected to hear back in February. I am also very used to making big, BIG plush with lots of details and fabric types lately, and that bit me in the butt while preparing my estimates. They will be FAR less than I had anticipated and budgeted for! Like, an embarrassing amount 😳 Meaning there's significant wiggle room there!

The thing is, while prototyping and unit price have been far lower than I anticipated, my shipping estimate was spot on. Safety testing costs are also not determined by size, they are flat costs, and they are not cheap. If it wasn't for those I would fully unlock all 3 bags and just plan to pay out of pocket, but shipping and testing triples their cost.

So there are a couple things I could do:

  • Combine all 3 under 1 stretch goal, and if met use that to pay for most of the shipping and testing specifically. I would be selling them at a reduced price for the Backerkit, but not until that goal is met.
  • Unlock them all now so they are available immediately, but they would be at full retail price which would be higher across the board. I would be taking a much higher personal risk, but in the end anyone willing to pay for a bag gets a bag and that's what matters.
  • Soft unlock them all immediately, where they become "Mini bag OR $X credit for Lairbrew." I would put these costs in to one stretch goal and make them available at a more ideal retail rate, but getting one as an add-on means getting one if the goal is hit or getting an equivalent gift card for my shop.
  • Unlock them all immediately while also putting up an option to get store credit or a percentage off coupon, and adding a tip jar option. I'm still shouldering the same amount of risk as the second option, but anyone inclined to lend me a hand would be able to, so there might be less pressure on my finances in the end.

There are pros and cons to each:
  • The first one is a very simple option, it gets everyone the best price and is the least out of pocket x 0risk for me, but it would also still be banking on us getting the campaign to 26k to make them available at all. Right now that seems unlikely.
  • The second one is equally as simple, but the biggest risk on my part and the highest end price for people getting them. It is the one way to guarantee everyone who wants them gets them regardless of stretch goals though.
  • The third is a more complicated option, and while it makes them available right away it is more of a "hypothetically available." Sure, people would be contributing more to the campaign so advancing to other stretch goals would be more likely, but it's still reliant on the campaign hitting 26k.
  • The fourth is complicated for me, but not really for anyone else. It isn't the best end price and I worry about making just credit/coupons available or putting up a tip jar because I feel like someone is going to look at that and see it as me being greedy when it is really very much the opposite.

What do you think? This is a pretty big decision, and my immediate impulse is to just make them available and trim the fat on some grocery bills for the year, but I'm very biased toward "do the thing that makes the most people happy." I need to at least force myself to move past that instinct and think about it, and feedback from outside my own head helps.
